The Fanny Pack Returns?

Fanny pack, bum bag, belt pack, hip sack - whatever you choose to call them - these chronically unfashionable bags have been one of the calling cards of loud, obnoxious American tourists for decades. Leave it to Marc Jacobs to make them fairly acceptable, though.

It was only a matter of time, I suppose—first the bright neons and loud makeup, and shoulder pads made a triumphant return to the runway, and now fanny packs are attempting a glorious comeback as well.

American Apparel and Marks and Spencer will be jumping on the bandwagon as well come spring, offering fanny packs for 15 pounds (about $23).  Kudos to them for taking a risk in resurrecting a trend that might be better off buried. For now I’ll be keeping my bag firmly under my arm, thanks.
